UTI test often fails to detect infection, say researchers – The Guardian
The Guardian newspaper reports that a new study suggests that the standard test, widely used since 1950s, does not work for chronic sufferers, detecting only 30% of infections.
A research paper published today by Dr Jennifer Rohn, head of Urological Biology at University College London’s (UCL’s) Department of Renal Medicine in the Division of Medicine at the Royal Free Hospital shows that conventional msu cultures detected infection in only 6 out of 33 patients with symptoms, compared with DNA sequencing which detected infection in all of the patients with symptoms.
