10 year study shows antibiotics could be key to relieving chronic bladder pain

A 10 year study into chronic UTI, Recalcitrant chronic bladder pain and recurrent cystitis but negative urinalysis: What should we do?, was published this week. The study, led by Dr Sheela Swamy of University College London, found antibiotics significantly reduced patient symptoms as well as the white blood and urothelial cells that are the markers of bladder infection.

The research findings support Professor Malone-Lee’s model of chronic embedded bacterial infection and highlights concerns amongst practitioners that tests for urinary tract infections miss infections. We are sharing the research widely.
